When Virgin Voyages launched in 2019, they had a bold ambition. Taylor Dixon, Senior Manager of Communications, had a clear goal: “Our purpose at Virgin Voyages is to create ‘an epic sea change for all’ which includes our people and this means shaking up the way we share information. We were looking for a tool that would allow us to connect crew globally from land to sea through engaging multimedia content.”

The crew were already closely knit, but relied heavily on WhatsApp to stay connected. It worked (sort of) but left leadership without visibility and crew without one trusted source of truth. With thousands of crew members from over 80 countries, connection and information-sharing was crucial.

One platform, zero confusion

Virgin Voyages needed a platform that worked as intuitively at sea as it did on land. That meant factoring in translation capabilities, clear content structures, and a crew who needed things to “just work” without training manuals.

Enablo guided the team through a Blueprint process before launch—getting crystal clear on goals, content approach, and crew needs. Nick Sandercock, Enablo Experience Manager, said, “Virgin Voyages undertook a Blueprint process with Enablo prior to their [platform] implementation. This ensured they launched with clear objectives and vision from day one, which set them up for success from the get-go.”

And it worked.

Rather than siloed WhatsApp chats, the crew now had a single destination to stay updated, speak up, and feel part of the bigger picture. From leadership updates and policy changes to memes and milestone shoutouts, everything lived in one place.

For the housekeeping team, it meant faster coordination with the bar crew—“They send a pic when they need more glasses and boom, sorted”—a simple but powerful shift in everyday workflow.

Massive Impact in Just 12 Months

In just one year, Virgin Voyages’ crew sent 18.6 million messages. That stat alone shows how naturally the platform became part of daily life.

To keep everything up-to-date, the platform was fully integrated with their HR tech stack—Workday on land, and a bespoke marine system at sea. Real-time updates meant the right info reached the right crew at the right time, no matter where they were or what shift they were on.

Nick summed up the results: “It’s been an incredible partnership; their engagement stats speak for themselves.”
